Despite New Plants, Nuclear Future Still Decades Away

http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2014/02/21/energy-dept-backs-new-nuke-plants-but-nuclear-future-still-decades-away

The new nuclear reactors are being build in Plant Vogtle in Geogia and it is supported by the Department of Energy and The president, etc. The new nuclear power plants cost about $6.5 billion to be created and expected to be done by 2019. The new nuclear reactors give out 1,100-megawatt, which provided a lot of energy. According to Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, he stated that the new plants will provide carbon-free electricity to the consumer. This is important because they are moving "toward a low-carbon energy future". President Obama also stated that it will help to reduce the country's greenhouse gas emissions, but also it will affect the decreasing of natural gas prices, and the slow growth in energy demand, etc. Researchers have different ideas and they are supporting the small modular nuclear reactors instead because it would be easier to built in factory and is still able to provide a lot of energy. Researchers also believed that it can replace the large coal boilers plants and able to work in area where the large reactor isn't able to. But the 2 new nuclear power plants had been announced about 5 days ago they will continue to built it and they hope to see it become a reality.

California dealing with the high price of gasoline in 2012

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/08/us/jerry-brown-moves-to-reduce-gas-prices-in-california.html?ref=gasolineprices

The review of this article price in California is not current, but it occurred approximately one year ago. The prices of gasoline increased over night on the first week of October. It increased to about $4 or more per gallon. This made the the consumers not being able to travel as far and pay the prices that they wanted. It effected the motorists more due to the fact that they pay higher gas prices than the drivers. California's drivers felt that they are being penalized and the other countries are paying less. However, California do pay higher prices than most of the states in the US due to the strict environment regulations.

Wild bees are recycling plastic

http://www.mnn.com/lifestyle/recycling/blogs/wild-bees-are-recycling-plastic-study-finds

Plastic is increasing rapidly in our ecosystems and it is effecting many wildlife. Only some animals like the bowerbirds and the hermit crabs are able to recycle plastic. In Canada, there are 2 bee species that were discovered and begun using plastic to built their nest. They believed that this is the hint to the plastic pollution and the nature's limited materials. The 2 types of bees were the Alfalfa Leafcutter and the native American Megachile Campanulae. The Alfalfa Leafcutter is different from honeybees, but they still helps the US and the Canadian farmers by pollinating crops. The researchers that bees are using the plastic "incidentally and not due to a lack of natural resin options". This is good for the environment, but plastics have both pros and cons to the bees, too. Plastic is not a natural material, it is man made. Plastic does not like moisture escape and it increased the growth of mold making the bees having difficult time living, but on the positive side is the parasite like wasps, they didn't suffer as much. To build the bee's nest, they needed the materials that will be able to stick to each other, but plastic did not, and the nest is easily fall apart. Researchers are still unclear to why the bees are using this non-biodegradable materials for building their nest.
